Health, Safety, and Security

Employee Health and Safety:

Superior Industries International is committed to excellence in safety. Superior believes that sound safety and health programs, employee involvement, and management commitment to safety strengthen our relationships with our employees and the community we serve.

All U.S. manufacturing plants participate in OSHA’s VPP Program at the STAR level. VPP promotes a comprehensive safety and health management system through a cooperative relationship involving management, labor, and state and federal safety professionals. Emphasis is placed on participative management, employee involvement, and adherence to published safety regulations and continual improvement through implementation of best practices. Certification as a VPP site is OSHA’s official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health status. Our own internal safety professionals are certified as Special Government Employees (SGE) and provide safety outreach to other companies to aid in their quest for a safe working environment.

Since joining VPP, accident frequency rates have been below the national average. Our Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR) for 2009 is 58% lower than the national average (compared with other industries within the same NAICS code). Our Days Away/Restricted Time (DART) rate is 65 % below the national average. Fewer injuries and illnesses mean greater profits as workers’ compensation premiums and other costs are reduced.

Our plants in Mexico are certified under the Mexican Secretariat of Labor and Social Prevention’s Voluntary Program (Programa de Autogestion). This program is similar to the OSHA VPP program, requiring that participating facilities ensure compliance with regulations and a reduction of injuries.

Employee and Facility Security:

Superior facilities are secured through controlled access, full time monitoring of electronic countermeasures, and has in place written contingency plans for emergency response. Security of our employees, protection of customer and company intellectual property, along with physical protection of property, are key elements of our security program.

Superior Industries is a partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and participates in the Customs – Trade Partnership against Terrorism C-TPAT program.
