Employee Health and Safety

Superior is committed to excellence in health and safety. Superior believes that sound health and safety programs, employee involvement, and management commitment to safety strengthen our relationships with our employees and the communities we serve. All of our manufacturing plants promote a comprehensive health and safety management system through a cooperative relationship involving our employees, management, and governmental safety professionals.

Emphasis is placed on employee engagement and involvement. Our internal safety professionals are certified as Special Government Employees and provide safety outreach to other companies to aid in their quest for a safe working environment. We have consistently outperformed the private industry Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR as defined by OSHA) average for the U.S. manufacturing sector, which was 3.3 in 2019.  Superior finished 2020 with a global TRIR of 0.76.

Employee and Facility Security

Superior facilities are secured through controlled access and full time monitoring of electronic countermeasures with written contingency plans for emergency response. The security of our employees, protection of customer and company intellectual property, along with physical protection of property, are key elements of our security program.

Superior Industries is a partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and participates in the Customs – Trade Partnership against Terrorism C-TPAT program.

At Superior Industries, occupational health and safety is crucial due to our use of heavy machinery and hazardous substances. Therefore, we have introduced a strict health and safety management system based on several standard operating procedures that is overseen by our Health, Safety, Environment & Energy Officer. The system includes regular training, the provision of personal protective equipment, mandatory and voluntary health checks for employees, twice per year risk assessments, and regular audits. In addition, every site in our European operations now has an ISO 45001 certification.
